SUMMARY
- Model Health, a software startup based in the US and Belgium has raised over €800,000 in pre-seed funding.
The company transforms ordinary smartphones into powerful tools for lab-quality movement analysis. The new funding will help speed up product development and grow the team as they move toward wider adoption.
The funding round was led by APEX Capital, with participation from Syndicate One, LeanSquare, and accelerator imec.istart. The startup is also backed by a group of angel investors, including renowned sports physical therapists Lieven Maesschalck, David Bombeke, and Leen Van Damme, as well as tech entrepreneurs Jeroen De Wit, Kristof De Smet, Marius Declerck, and a high-profile European footballer who remains unnamed.
"Every athlete and patient deserves world-class movement analysis and every practitioner should have affordable, lab-grade tools that fit seamlessly into their workflow", said Antoine Falisse Co-founder and CEO of Model Health. "With smartphones only, we can now unlock insights that once required €100k+ equipment, making high-performance movement analysis truly scalable."

Founded in 2024 by former Stanford researchers and a former McKinsey director, Model Health is on a mission to equip physical therapists, athletic trainers, and sports organisations with powerful tools to improve physical health and athletic performance.
The company aims to democratise lab-grade movement analysis by offering fast, portable, and automated motion capture technology making advanced movement insights accessible to professionals outside of traditional research labs.
As musculoskeletal health and sports performance gain global attention, Model Health's technology has the potential to transform injury prevention, rehabilitation, performance optimisation and even equipment design.
The core technology was developed through research at Stanford University by co-founders Antoine Falisse (CEO) and Scott Uhlrich (CSO), and is already used by over 10,000 researchers worldwide. The founding team later brought on Nicolas Bellemans, a former McKinsey director, as CPO and COO to help grow and scale the company’s impact.
"Using this system in my clinic has been a game changer" said Dr Wilfredo Agredo Medical Doctor. "It provides clear actionable insights into movement patterns helping me make more informed decisions for my patients’ treatment plans. The accuracy and ease of use make it an invaluable tool for improving patient outcomes."
The funding will be used to speed up product development, drive adoption among sports clinics and organisations, and support commercial growth by making three key hires.
Model Health is currently focused on providing fast, accurate, and easy-to-use tools that give professionals actionable insights on their patients or athletes through simple, deployable workflows.
"Traditionally, athletes need to move from the field/track/pitch to a lab for detailed movement analysis. Model Health reverses this," said Koen Bosma, Partner at Apex Capital. "They make the lab go to the athletes. Their technology has the potential to become the global standard for how professionals measure, analyse, and improve movement. We are very excited for the journey ahead."
