London-based Cryogenx has raised €1.9 million in a seed funding round to speed up the development of its portable cooling tech aimed at preventing heat strokes.

SUMMARY

  • London-based Cryogenx has raised €1.9 million in a seed funding round to speed up the development of its portable cooling tech aimed at preventing heat strokes.

As part of the round, the UK Innovation & Science Seed Fund (UKI2S), managed by Future Planet Capital, invested €495,000.

Founder and CEO of Cryogenx, Matt Anderson, added: “Heatstroke isn’t just an isolated risk; it’s a rising global threat – and existing solutions simply aren’t practical enough to meet the challenge. We’ve designed CGX1 as a defibrillator for heatstroke, providing frontline responders and military personnel the ability to treat heat-related illness effectively, wherever it strikes.

“The backing from UKI2S is pivotal – it not only validates our mission but gives us the resources to accelerate regulatory clearance, scale manufacturing, and get this lifesaving technology into the hands of those who need it most.“

Founded in 2020, Cryogenx creates portable cooling devices to quickly treat heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses on the spot.

Its main product, the CGX1, works without ice or refrigeration and can be used in remote, industrial, military, or emergency situations. Called a “defibrillator for heat,” the lightweight device offers fast, life-saving cooling and is aimed at global markets in defence, industry, and climate response.

“This is exactly the kind of innovation we target in our defence and security investments,” said Alex Leigh Investment Director at UKI2S, managed by Future Planet Capital. “Cryogenx is addressing a critical, global challenge with a solution that has the potential to transform how we prevent and manage heat injuries across sectors. We’re proud to support them as they scale their impact and set a new benchmark for operational safety and resilience.”

Cryogenx is focused on dual-use tech, especially for defence sectors like the UK MOD and US DoD, where heat illness is a serious issue. The company also plans to expand quickly into civilian areas like energy, construction, mining, emergency services, and sports.

The new funding will support FDA clearance, boost manufacturing, and grow international sales. Cryogenx is also working on lighter, modular versions and plans to offer a subscription model for long-term growth.

With 700 million people expected to face extreme heat by 2030—causing over €2 trillion in productivity losses—Cryogenx aims to address this urgent global challenge. Heat stress can impact both physical and mental performance, and high core temperatures (above 39°C) can be fatal.

Research shows that temperature, humidity, radiant heat, and wind speed can push workers past safe limits. Cryogenx offers a fast, scalable solution to combat rising heat risks worldwide.

About Cryogenx

Cryogenx develops portable cooling devices to fight heat stress. Its first product, the CGX1, delivers life-saving body cooling anytime, anywhere—like an ice bath in a backpack. As heat-related deaths and economic losses rise globally, Cryogenx offers a scalable solution for a hotter, more dangerous planet.
