SUMMARY

  • Berlin-based GIGA.GREEN, a developer and operator of solar and EV charging infrastructure, has secured a €30 million revolving capital expenditure facility from Kommunalkredit Austria AG to accelerate the expansion of its sustainable energy network.

The funding will help GIGA.GREEN expand its decentralized photovoltaic infrastructure and grow its zero-investment solar-as-a-service model for energy-intensive businesses.

The capital will also support scaling operations and extending the company’s project pipeline across Germany.

GIGA.GREEN has signed a financing agreement with Kommunalkredit Austria AG, a Vienna-based specialist bank focused on sustainable infrastructure.

Kommunalkredit supports projects across renewable energy, environmental protection, social services, transport, and communications. Through this new facility, the bank continues to advance Europe’s shift toward sustainable, decentralized energy systems.

The partnership aligns with Kommunalkredit’s mission to expand renewable power access and enhance local energy resilience, reinforcing its commitment to financing impactful green initiatives across Europe.

David Wagener, head of finance at GIGA.GREEN, says, “We would like to thank Kommunalkredit for the excellent cooperation and for seeing and supporting our vision. This financing solution is tailored to our needs and supports us in implementing our projects efficiently and sustainably.”

Germany’s industrial sector faces growing pressure to cut emissions while keeping costs under control. Decentralised renewable energy offers a solution, but many companies struggle with limited expertise, high upfront costs and complex regulations.

GIGA.GREEN solves these challenges with a full-service solar model. It handles the planning, financing, installation, and operation of rooftop solar systems, while businesses simply lease their roof space and benefit from affordable, long-term solar power—all without upfront investment.

Founded in 2018 by Sebastian Schmidt and Wolfgang Robig, GIGA.GREEN transforms unused rooftop spaces into energy-generating assets for commercial and industrial clients.

Beyond solar systems, it also offers battery storage and charging infrastructure to advance the broader energy transition. The company aims to build a decentralised solar network across Germany, reducing emissions and promoting long-term energy independence.

In July 2025, GIGA.GREEN raised €25 million in equity from Ichigo Inc., a Japanese sustainable infrastructure firm, to further accelerate its growth.

The new revolving capital facility allows GIGA.GREEN to align funding with project and revenue timelines, enabling flexible financing as projects advance and capital is recovered through operations.

This structure will help the company scale its solar-as-a-service model, expand the number of photovoltaic systems under management, and further its mission to reduce industrial emissions in Germany and across Europe.

Wolfgang Robig, co-founder and MD of GIGA.GREEN says, “This fund represents another significant step in the company’s mission to develop and operate solar and charging infrastructure and partner with commercial and industrial customers to jointly save one gigaton (1 billion tons) of CO2.”

“With this funding, GIGA.GREEN will be able to accelerate its Germany-wide project portfolio, focusing on photovoltaic systems on industrial roofs. The Germany-based company will use the capital to help more businesses gain access to clean, affordable electricity without upfront investment.”

“We are proud to make this important contribution to decarbonisation together with our team and customers. Our goal at GIGA.GREEN is to create a way for companies to improve their sustainability as easily as possible,” adds Wolfgang.
