SUMMARY

  • Amsterdam-based OLX, a Prosus-owned online classifieds platform, has announced it will acquire French auto classifieds site La Centrale from Providence Equity Partners in an all-cash transaction valued at €1.1 billion.

The acquisition gives OLX a foothold in Western Europe and the French automotive market.

By combining OLX’s technology with La Centrale’s local expertise and brand, the company aims to attract more dealers, build stronger partnerships, enhance customer experience, and grow revenue.

La Centrale recently restructured its leadership, boosting technology, user experience, and market position, which helped its classifieds revenue grow 12% annually. Additionally, OLX Group named Christian Gisy as its new CEO in June.

The French car market remains strong, but professional dealers account for just 36% of used car sales—well below Germany’s ~70%—and average transaction values per dealer lag European standards, according to the company.

With tightening new car margins and growing EV adoption, consumers are increasingly seeking trusted digital platforms for transparency and choice.

Prosus and OLX plan to leverage classifieds like La Centrale to connect professional sellers with buyers, seizing this opportunity and advancing Prosus’s goal of building a European e-commerce ecosystem.

The acquisition comes as OLX Group reports strong fiscal 2025 results.

The company generated $777M (€665M) in revenue, up 18% year-on-year, with adjusted EBIT of $270M (€231M), a 61% increase, pushing the aEBIT margin to 35% from 25% in FY24.

Growth was driven by Motors, Real Estate, and Jobs in its fastest-growing markets. OLX is also investing in advanced AI to enhance customer and user experiences.

Headquartered in Paris, La Centrale is a specialized automotive marketplace for buying and selling higher-value cars in France.

The platform attracts around 4.5 million unique visitors monthly and hosts approximately 350,000 listings. It supports over 10,000 automotive professionals with SaaS tools, including the Pilot suite, to optimize pricing, sourcing, and inventory management.

“La Centrale has long been a trusted destination for dealers and consumers in France,” says Philippe Chainieux, CEO of La Centrale. “We believe that joining forces with OLX and Prosus will allow us to expand that mission, accelerate innovation and deliver even greater value to our customers. We are excited to write the next chapter of growth together.”

OLX operates online marketplaces with 29 million monthly users across eight countries, primarily in Central and Eastern Europe.

The platform helps buyers access items they might not afford new and allows sellers to earn extra income. Each month, OLX hosts over 73 million active listings and more than 13 million sellers.

OLX serves over 10 million people across Europe and South Africa monthly, supporting car sales, housing, jobs, household goods, and more.

”La Centrale is a natural fit within our classifieds portfolio,” comments Christian Gisy, CEO of OLX. “Our strategy is to unleash the growth potential of vertical marketplaces, building strong regional leaders by scaling businesses using our proprietary AI technology. La Centrale’s strong market position and talented team are the perfect foundation to deliver our trusted innovative customer-first technology solutions to France.”
