SUMMARY
- Copenhagen-based startup Alice, which uses AI to turn regular course content into personalized, interactive study tools, has raised €4.2 million.
The funding round was led by Cherry Ventures and Y Combinator, with support from investors in the US and Europe, including PSV Tech.
“We’re giving students an intelligent learning companion that helps them study smarter, not harder,” said Kim Rants, CEO and Co-founder of Alice. “In just one year, we’ve seen how powerful it can be to combine personalisation, AI, and social learning to dramatically improve outcomes and reduce stress. When used correctly, AI has the opportunity to vastly improve the student experience and reshape the future of education.”
Founded in 2024, Alice aims to help students learn more effectively, remember better, and reduce stress by using adaptive AI.

The company was started by Kim Rants, who has two master’s degrees and over 11 years of teaching experience at Copenhagen Business School, and Patrick Gadd, an Oxford graduate with 15+ years in AI development.
Alice believes the traditional education system is outdated and doesn’t meet the needs of today’s diverse learners, leading to stress and uneven results.
“I’m currently testing Alice with two classes, and my students are excited by the opportunity to test their knowledge in the different ways that Alice offers,” said Marina Pasovski, a teacher at Virum High School in Denmark. “I believe it’s important that we as educators dare to try new approaches—especially when it comes to responsibly integrating AI into the classroom, so we can show students how AI can—and cannot—be used. In that regard, Alice is a great tool.”
Alice’s platform uses AI to turn student-uploaded materials into personalized study guides, quizzes, and tutoring. It also tracks student progress in real time and highlights areas for improvement.
With the “Study with Friends” feature, students can collaborate, share notes, and stay motivated together.
Alice is now available in 10 countries and has grown its user base by 650% in just four months.
“At Cherry, we back mission-driven founders who combine ambition with strong execution, and Alice is a perfect fit,” said Sophia Bendz, Partner at Cherry Ventures. “The team is building an entirely new category of learning product—one that’s not just smart, but social, sticky, and scalable. I’m excited to see Alice grow into a global leader in AI-powered education.”
Alice is based in Denmark with a clear goal: to help Europe build strong EdTech companies that can compete worldwide. With AI automation, there are new opportunities to create top EdTech companies in Europe and expand innovation globally. The team believes that by working with schools and teachers, Europe can develop its own ethical and effective way to use AI in classrooms.
“AI has enormous potential within education and learning – and it’s here to stay. That’s why I believe we should proactively develop solutions that build on Denmark’s already strong education system, rather than wait for them to come from outside,” said Tommy Ahlers, Denmark’s Former Minister for Higher Education and Science. “I believe Alice’s approach to responsible and personalised learning, which supports both students and teachers, can have a positive impact on students’ academic performance not just in Denmark, but globally.“
With €4.8 million in new funding, Alice plans to grow its student base, improve its AI technology, and build stronger partnerships with high schools, universities, and education providers in Europe, the US, and beyond.
