SUMMARY
- Aerleum, The pioneering climate tech company specializing in CO₂ capture and utilization has secured €5.5 million in seed funding.
- Aerleum was founded by Sébastien Fiedorow and Steven Bardey to address the environmental and economic challenges of fossil fuels by producing clean fuels and chemicals from CO2 captured directly from the air.
This transformative innovation converts atmospheric CO₂ and low-carbon hydrogen into synthetic fuels (e-fuels) and chemicals, advancing hard-to-abate sectors towards a carbon-neutral future.
It's game-changing solution captures and converts CO₂ in a single reactor, utilizing proprietary bifunctional materials and precision heating. By eliminating energy-intensive steps in the value chain, their technology enables cost-competitive, large-scale production of e-fuels and chemicals while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Aerleum is leading the industry with the fastest timeline to achieve price parity with fossil fuels. This milestone provides industries like maritime, aviation, and chemicals a viable path to decarbonization without sacrificing cost or scalability.
Sébastien Fiedorow, co-founder & CEO of Aerleum said, “Our mission has been clear since the beginning: to make e-fuels as affordable and accessible as fossil fuels, With this seed round, we’re taking a major step forward in scaling our technology to meet the urgent demand for decarbonization. We’re here to reshape entire industries, enabling them to achieve net-zero emissions faster and more efficiently.”
Aerleum is at the forefront of the e-methanol industry, a clean and energy-dense fuel gaining momentum in maritime and aviation sectors. E-methanol presents substantial advantages by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, cutting air pollutants, and serving as an efficient energy carrier due to its liquid state at ambient temperature—simplifying transport and storage.
With the global e-methanol market set to expand significantly amid mounting pressure for decarbonization in maritime shipping and aviation, Aerleum is poised to drive this pivotal transformation.
With seed funding secured, Aerleum is ready to launch its first full-scale pilot unit. The company aims to collaborate with industry leaders and customers to implement its technology in sectors prioritizing emissions reductions. Steven Bardey, co-founder & CTO of Aerleum, envisions transforming industries and establishing a circular carbon economy, turning atmospheric CO₂ into a valuable resource.
Alexandre Mordacq and François Tison from 360 Capital said, “We were seduced by Aerleum’s vision of a world where petroleum would be replaced by the CO2 present in the air – a vision rooted in reality as demonstrated by their first systems, and their economically sound business model opening the way to large scale applications,”.
Timo Bertsch from HTGF said, “What truly sets Aerleum apart is the powerful combination of breakthrough technology and an audacious vision to replace environmentally harmful chemicals like methanol with a sustainable, carbon-neutral alternative. This vision aligns perfectly with HTGF’s commitment to fostering innovation that not only drives business growth but also contributes to a healthier planet. In just one year, the team has demonstrated remarkable speed and execution, achieving significant technical milestones that highlight their capacity to scale rapidly. We are excited to support Aerleum on the next stage of their journey,”.
