Healthtech startup Gardia has raised €8.5 million in a Series A round to expand its mobile fall-detection emergency system for seniors.
SUMMARY
- Healthtech startup Gardia has raised €8.5 million in a Series A round to expand its mobile fall-detection emergency system for seniors.
The round was led by European VC firm Peak, with participation from amberra (the corporate venture studio of Germany’s Cooperative Financial Group) and GS1 Germany’s butterfly & elephant accelerator. Existing investors, including BONVENTURE, Dieter von Holtzbrinck Ventures, and Beurer, also reinvested.
The funding arrives amid Europe’s shifting demographics, as the region faces growing healthcare needs. The EU has roughly 97 million people aged 65 and older, projected to surpass 110 million by the mid-2030s. In Germany, where most seniors live independently, the desire to age at home is increasingly challenged by a shortage of care workers.

This trend has increased demand for independent safety solutions. Each year, millions of older adults in Germany experience falls and are often unable to call for help. Delayed assistance raises the risk of serious injury and long-term care dependency, adding pressure to healthcare systems.
Gardia has created a mobile emergency system designed specifically for seniors. The solution features a discreet wristband with automatic fall detection that works at home and on the move no smartphone required. Hardware, software, app, and AI are all developed in-house and tailored to older users’ needs.
Marlon Besuch, co-founder and CEO of Gardia, explained that accurate fall detection relies on advanced, precise technology development.
At the same time, we see that many existing emergency systems are not used in everyday life because they are stigmatising or too complicated. Our goal was therefore to develop a technically excellent solution that people are happy to wear and that reliably provides help when it really matters.
The company serves a five-figure active user base across the DACH region, benefiting from high retention and coverage through German health insurance.
With the Series A funding, Gardia aims to further expand across the DACH region, enter international markets, and grow its B2B presence in the care and healthcare sectors.
